Two of my favorite things in the entire world are animals — all kinds — and beach vacations.

What would you say if I told you that it’s possible to combine animals and beach vacations into one amazing package?

…well, that is what I’m saying!

Take a look at the five destinations we recommend for vacation-goers who want to incorporate some animal time into their getaway.

5 Bucket List Destinations for Animal Lovers:

1. Breathless Riviera Cancun

Are you one of those people that hesitates to take a vacation just because you can’t stand the thought of leaving your fur-baby at home? Well, we have the solution for you and it comes in the form of Breathless Riviera Cancun.

You can bring your dog… I repeat, you can bring your dog. Breathless is a highly energetic, adults-only property located between the Caribbean Sea and the Lagoon of Bahia Petempich. If you happen to book an Xhale Club room category, your pup is allowed to stay along with you, as long as they meet the requirements.

This destination might be worth checking out if leaving your dog is a major struggle for you!

2. Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya

Located in the heart of the Riviera Maya along white-sand beaches and clear waters of Akumal, this is arguably one of the nicest Secrets properties. The entire landscape of the resort is filled with lush, tropical plants and flowers. It almost feels like you’re walking through a gorgeous jungle while navigating through the resort! In addition, one of the most popular parts of Secrets Akumal is the on-site excursion of snorkeling with sea turtles along the world’s second largest barrier reef! The word Akumal actually means “Place of Turtles” in Mayan. It’s an unforgettable experience, and guess what — it’s available to Secrets guests throughout their trip!

Another cool fact about Secrets Akumal is that the resort participates in the Plastic Pollution Coalition’s “Skip the Straw” campaign, which aims to reduce and eliminate the use of plastic in order to protect marine life. This means you won’t find a plastic straw in your cocktail during your stay, but it’s for a great cause! Once you swim with these beautiful creatures, you’ll be glad you’re skipping out.

3. Iberostar Tucan

Interested in being surrounded by animals during your resort stay? Iberostar Tucan might be the place for you. This five-star beachfront resort in Riviera Maya, sits on the Caribbean beach of Playacar along the Mayan Riviera. As you walk throughout the property, you’re surrounded by a natural ecosystem with abundant vegetation and diverse animal life. Iberostar Tucan is a great destination for anyone, as visitors are invited to relax in perfect harmony with nature, while also being provided a variety of luxurious activities, dining services and other amenities!

4. Dreams Las Mareas

Located on the beautiful Playa El Jobo on the Northern coast of Guanacaste, Dreams Las Mareas Costa Rica features a palm-studded beach and lush tropical jungles. This is a property where a very wide variety of animals have been spotted on and near the resort, including monkeys, iguanas, pelicans, raccoons, bats, monkeys, lizards, geckos, parrots and parakeets!

5. Resorts in Riviera Nayarit

Aside from on-site animal interactions, there’s also the option of taking outside excursions, which usually offer a wider range of activity options. Staying at any resort in Riviera Nayarit, for instance, allows opportunity to do an excursion to the Islas Marietas National Park (pictured below). The park offers whale-watching tours and plenty of opportunity to see octopus, manta rays, sea turtles, wild dolphins, tropical fish and tropical birds.
