I love traveling more than anything in the world. In my mind, the process of packing a bag, leaving home and experiencing a new place is absolute euphoria.
But, anytime I travel, there’s one thing that never fails to stress me out — the flight.
For me, it’s not going through security, making it to the gate or riding on the plane that gives me heart palpitations — it’s the lack of efficiency and forward-thinking.
Though I’ve been consistently traveling via plane for years now, I always seem to get caught up with a bunch of little things like a dead phone, overpriced snacks or poorly-packed bags.
But, with a little planning, I believe these issues can be resolved, making travel faster, more efficient and more enjoyable.
Bon voyage, folks!
11 Airport Hacks to Remember For Your Next Flight:
1. Bring extra Ziploc bags
Since TSA requires you to store your liquids in clear plastic bags, it’s always smart to pack a couple extras. This way, if you lose or rip one, you won’t have to scramble to find a replacement.
2. Keep your laptop in an accessible place
When going through TSA, you’ll have to put your laptop in a bin separate from the rest of your items. Make your life easier by packing your device in an accessible place.
3. Bring an empty water bottle
Water usually costs a lot at airports. The best way to stay hydrated without breaking the bank is to pack an empty reusable water bottle in your carry on.
4. Pack your own snacks
Like water, airport snacks are expensive. So, before heading to the airport, pack a few snacks in your carry on.
5. Bring a light jacket or sweater
In my experience, airports and airplanes are always cold. So, it’s smart to bring along a light jacket or sweater for warmth — or to use as a pillow.
6. Don’t be afraid to ask for an upgrade
It never hurts to ask — especially when it comes to flight upgrades.
Upon arriving at the gate, feel free to ask the airline staff if any better seats are available. If you’re quiet about it, the worst that can happen is a respectful no.
7. Wear your heaviest items
Do you have a tendency to over-pack? If so, a good solution is to wear your heaviest clothes through TSA.
Then, if you don’t want to wear them on the flight, all you have to do is stuff them into your carry on before boarding.
8. Sign up for TSA Precheck
TSA Precheck allows you to skip the long lines through security. It requires a yearly fee, but it’s totally worth it — especially if you travel frequently.
9. Bring hand sanitizer
In short — airports and airplanes are some of the easiest places to catch germs.
10. Carry a portable phone charger
I feel like this could go without explanation, but I will say this — traveling with a dead phone is not fun.
11. Take your hotel toiletries
If you have leftover shampoos, conditioners, soaps, etc. in your hotel bathroom — grab them. These are perfect for future travels.
