7 Best Self-Tanners of All Time

No matter how many days I spend at the beach or how many hours I spend by the pool, I always seem to lose my tan approximately 11 seconds after arriving home.

I don’t know if it’s because my body senses my home state’s land-locked air or what, but I’m always sorely disappointed when I look in the mirror and see a ghost-white face staring back at me.

In order to fool my friends and family into thinking I got nice and bronzed at the beach, I usually reach for a bottle of trusty self-tanner.

But, over the years, I’ve had my fair share of run-ins with streaky, stinky, unreliable self-tanners.

So, in order to save you from the orange-y fate I’ve experienced in the past, I created a list of self-tanners that, if applied correctly, will give you a smooth, natural-looking tan.

Cheers to year-round vacation skin, right?

7 Best Self-Tanners of All Time:

1. Kiehl’s Sun-Free Self-Tanning Formula // $22.50

This stuff goes on easily, looks super natural and, best of all, is lacking that self-tanner smell.

“The first thing that impressed me so much about this product is that it really does not have a tanner smell,” one reviewer said. “Not when you’re putting it on, and not later when it’s on the skin. So wonderful that you can put this on and not have that lingering self tanner aroma. I love it.”

2. Clarins Self-Tanning Instant Gel // $38.00

Speaking as a super pale person, this stuff goes on easily without streaking or making me look orange.

“This gives my skin the just got back from the beach look. Goes on smooth,” a reviewer said.

3. Tarte Braziliance Self Tanner // $39.00

This product is awesome because it comes with an application mitt. So, instead of having to hunt down gloves or live with stained palms, you can slip on the mitt for smooth, worry-free application.

“I am still amazed at how flawlessly and easily this self-tanner and mitt work,” one customer said. “The aroma is a lovely very lightly sweet scent. The mitt is astonishing because it smooths out the lotion in perfect non- streaking even layers. It dries really well and is not sticky. Gave me a natural tan color, not any ugly orange tint.”

4. Whish Self Tanner Body Butter // $27.97

This stuff if awesome because it not only leaves your skin looking pool-side fresh, but it nourishes in the process. Oh, and it smells awesome — win, win, win.

“Love this product!” one woman said. “Even tan and doesn’t leave a stinky self tanner smell!!”

5. Jergen’s Natural Glow Firming Daily Moisturizer // $10.99

There are two main things that make this product awesome — it’s cheap and it works. It also helps decrease the look of cellulite, which is never a bad thing.

“Really works!” one buyer said. “You will achieve smooth, soft, darker skin tone without any tan lines. A great way to get a jump on summer sun. You can also use it to help blend tan lines. The color does not transfer to clothing or furniture when applied properly and given time to absorb into your skin. It’s a great product!”

6. St. Tropez Brinzing Mousse // $42.00

The best thing about this product is that it dries insanely fast. So, if you’re looking for a way to quickly tackle uneven tan lines or general paleness, this is the perfect product for you.

“Massages in so quickly and easy,” one review stated. “Plan on being sticky for about 5 minutes or so and then you are ready to go! About 3 hours later this stunning bronze tan will appear! You can apply it again the next night if you want to get darker and continue until you get the color you want. It’s really an amazing, easy to use product!”

7. Hampton Sun Airbrush Bronzing Body Mist // $42.00

This product is super nice because it features a continuous-spray nozzle. So, you can easily spritz it on before an event or day at the beach.

“I applied this the day before a wedding and so many people at the wedding commented on how nice my tan looked,” one customer said. “It applies evenly and develops into a beautiful golden tan on my skin.”

Happy bronzing, folks!
