Explore the City of Isla Mujeres, Mexico

On my vacations, I take them very seriously. You know why? Because in my day-to-day life, I stay busy, busy, busy so I can get myself to the beach with a book and drink in hand and relaaaaaaax.

Anyone else get excited to do nothing?

I just got back from visiting the cutest resort called Zoetry Isla Mujeres on the island Isla Mujeres in Mexico and I’m here to tell you, there are definitely perks to staying at a smaller resort on a smaller island. For one, it feels like a total getaway.

Here’s other reasons why you should Explore the Island of Isla Mujeres, Mexico

1. Discovering a new destination

Traveling can feel overwhelming when traveling to a big city like Cancun. This is one of the main perks of traveling to a smaller destination or island, because you can easily escape the hustle. Isla Mujeres is known as a fishing village and filled with Mayan history. So there’s so much to explore and learn about the culture and the island. Since it’s only 8 miles long, you can easily explore the entire island in one day or half-a-day.

My husband and I decided to rent a golf-cart for the day and ride around the island. There’s many different tours you can take as well. There’s a turtle farm and you can take a bike tour to the edge of the island.

There’s some really fun water excursions like sailing or take a catamaran ride. Many of our guests in the past decided to go swim with whale sharks!! (They’re totally safe to swim with I promise.)

2. Private Island Vibes

The beach is small, but feels like you’re on a private island. This resort only has about 40 rooms or so, plus the island itself hosts around 12,000 residents. So there’s plenty of opportunity to meet new people and easily get to know the other guests.

During our stay, we felt like we got a better taste of the culture of Mexico since it was slower paced and more laid back. We had plenty of opportunity to get to know the staff by name and learn about their stories.

3. Amazing Food

The. Food. Is. Unbelievable. There’s only 2 restaurants, but Zoetry is extremely intentional about their food. One of the restaurants only serves 7-course meals that change daily. So there’s really only one main restaurant but it did not disappoint. I had something different every night and it was some of the best food I’ve ever had! Below was my favorite meal on the trip: Unlimited red wine and chips with guacamole.

Zoetry Villa Rolandi was originally a restaurant that they turned into a resort. So they still continue making their authentic wood fired pizza from a wood fired oven. It’s fabulous.

Isla Mujeres is known as a fishing village like I said above. So you can only imagine how good their grilled fish tasted.

And for breakfast, their fresh chocolate croissants still make my mouth water just thinking about them.

4. Unplug and Reconnect

Because the resort is smaller, this gives you and your fellow travelers uninterrupted time to talk and reconnect. Talk about a much-needed anniversary trip, right? My husband and I stay busy at home so we really enjoyed the quiet atmosphere around the pools and at night.

I rarely moved from this spot by the pool. And I loved it.

5. Special Attention as Guests

Zoetry Villa Rolandi is known for the health and wellness mentality. There’s a “juice of the day” every day that they hand out to everyone at the pools. They give you cucumbers for your eyes, healthy smoothies, wine tastings, chair massages by the pool and it’s all complimentary to your stay.

Also another perk to a smaller destination was the resort learned your names quickly (and learned your drink orders too). We felt like celebrities all week.
