“It’s the freaking weekend.”
A common phrase heard around every American cubicle come 4:59 pm every Friday afternoon.
YOU DON’T HAVE TO GO INTO WORK TOMORROW!
Can I get an AMEN and a HALLELUJAH!
It’s like someone brought strawberry shortcake (with blue jello) into the office unexpectedly. It’s the best.
Let’s be honest, by Wednesday, we are already longing for the weekend: Friday night pizza date, Netflix binging, Saturday farmer’s market, plans to get drinks with friends. But come Sunday night, there’s that mini (and maybe dramatic) panic attack that the weekend is over.
It’s time to be a grown-up again.
You know what’s the worst?
While weekends and holidays are designed for us to rest, take a break, and spend time with
community, we feel the incessant need to post “something cool” on social media. All. The. Time.
We take a mid-afternoon scroll on our iPhones and get this tinge of fear because we either didn’t do something epic, or forgot to document it.
And IT’S TRUE! No one wants to miss out! We book every second of the weekend and forget what that time of rest was intended for…to actually rest and celebrate simplicity & the beauty of home.
At BSV, we’re all about taking moments to prioritize rest. It’s not about escaping your crazy life or finding relaxation only in a drink or destination.
It’s about finding moments to breathe and enjoy the life around you.
If you are hosting an upcoming 3-day weekend or this weekend’s Supper Club and feel the wave of stress city about to crash at your door. Breathe. We’ve created a fun way to bring the beach-mentality to home and celebrate with friends and family even in the midst of chaos.
Here’s some tips:
Invite a friend to cook and prep your house with you before you host. And start earlier rather than later!
Mom’s, don’t sweat the small stuff! Nothing says “independence” more than a naked 2-year old embracing his freedom in the sprinkler or a dirty dog trampling through the kitchen.
Celebrate each others’ victories – even if that means your beach trip is months away or your best friend just finished hers!
Resting can happen both on the sands and in the backyard.
Get creative and out of the box with your 4th of July food and beverages!
Here’s a refreshing Watermelon-Mint-Lemonade cocktail – the perfect accent to any 4th of July party that will make you feel like you’re chillin’ out, maxin’, relaxin’ all cool on the shore of your favorite Caribbean resort (but not shootin’ some b-ball outside of the school).
As you create, enjoy, explore, and (hopefully after this post) rest,
prepare for this 4(th) day weekend and bring a little taste of the beach-mentality to your doorstep.
