As much as I wish I was more spontaneous, at the end of the day, I am not. I get anxious and start overthinking everything.
However, my goal for the year is to be more spontaneous.
If you’re reading this and you’re the spontaneous type with an itch to travel ASAP, I’m here to tell you it is more than possible to get your butt on the beach for a weekend in paradise.
There’s a few things you need to know though before you’re sipping on a Pina Colada in Cancun. Use these 8 steps to help you have the most stress-free weekend trip to Mexico.
How To Do Mexico In A Weekend
1. Give Two Week’s Notice
On busy weekends like Labor Day weekend, if you’re calling the day before to travel, most likely the resorts will be all booked up. And some resorts have their room status closed 1 week before. But on low-key weekends or when you call with more than a week’s notice, we can find you a room and flights in Mexico easier than you would think. Side note: Don’t hesitate to call even if it is last minute! We have had guests call and book even 3 days before.
And if you haven’t seen the movie Two Week’s Notice, you need to. It’s a classic, folks.
2. Call A BeachMaster To Book
There is so much out there on the internet and so many hidden fees. It can get stressful. When you call one of our travel agents, they’ll get to you in 7 seconds or less and can find you the best deal possible at resorts we know and trust.
3. Be Open-Minded
What I love about traveling to Mexico is every destination is both diverse and beautiful all around. Worried about not having a good beach? With over 100 resorts that we book to Mexico, there are gorgeous beach options from hot spots like Cancun to hidden gems like Tulum.
4. Make Sure You Have Your Passport
Of all your travel documents, yeah, you don’t want to forget this. Make sure it isn’t expired and you’re good to go.

5. Pack Light
I’ve made this mistake too many times. Honestly, all you really need to pack are swimsuits for the day (bring two to alternate between), nice clothes for dinner at night, and clothes for in-between. If you’re wondering how to actually pack light for vacation, read this.

6. Wake-Up Early Everyday
Especially if you’re only going for a weekend trip, we want you to make the most out of your resort-stay with free, we repeat, free amenities and activities at your fingertips. From morning yoga on the beach, drinks all day at the swim-up bar or under a beach cabana, room service snacks (offered 24-hours at most resorts), night shows and entertainment, to gourmet dining.
Trust me, you’ll want to embrace these amenities all day long.
7. Save The Excursions For Your Next Trip
We love whenever our guests get to experience excursions and adventures off-resort. Just know they take half-a-day if not the entire day so just be aware of that when traveling for a short trip. Honestly, a slow morning brunch as you gaze toward the quiet ocean sounds pretty nice right about now.
8. Embrace The Food And Drinks
Speaking of brunch by the ocean, I cannot tell you enough about how amazing the food and drinks will be at your resort. There’s just something about sipping on a fruity drink as you recline by the pool or beach.
Our favorite drinks in Mexico: Mango Tango, Margarita on the rocks, Pina Colada, Chocolate Martini
