7 Packing Tips Every Traveler Should Know

Is there really anyone on this earth that loves packing?

To me, this is the only part of traveling that I hate. I mean, trying to pick a week’s worth of clothes, shoes, accessories, etc. is not my idea of fun.

But since I work in the travel industry, I’ve picked some pretty handy tips over the years. Below are a few of my favorites.

7 Packing Tips Every Traveler Should Know:

1. Roll, don’t fold.

Most experienced travelers agree that rolling garments is more efficient that folding garments. Not only do rolled clothes take up less space than folded ones, but they’re less likely to get deep wrinkles.

2. Make a packing list.

Before you even start packing, sit down and make an intricately detailed clothing, accessories and toiletries checklist. And then, make a vow to stick to it.

3. Wash your clothes on the road.

When you’re on the road, it’s likely that you’ll have access to a laundry mat or laundry services within your hotel. So, if you want to cut down on the number of clothes you’re packing, consider taking a little time to do some laundry.

4. Pack dual-purpose items.

When you’re on vacation and around a bunch of people you don’t know, you can wear the same outfit numerous times without anyone noticing. So, instead of packing 10 outfits, pack five that you can mix and match.

5. Layer.

This is honestly a key when it comes to flying. When you’re going from one climate to another, hanging out in airports and sitting in planes, you’re going to want to have a variety of garments on.

6. Never check essential items.

Keep your valuable and essential belongings in your carry-on bag, not in your checked luggage. This way, you can have access to those items as well as keep an eye on them.

7. Use your personal item wisely.

When choosing your personal item, make sure it aligns with the airlines standards. Something like a purse, laptop bag or backpack is generally acceptable.
