Even though I was there for my job, I had the opportunity to sight-see and experience the beauty, luxury and adventure that defines this destination.

From white-sand beaches, to crystal-clear cenotes, to delicious cuisine, to unmatched marine life, Riviera Maya has something for everyone to enjoy.

In short — you should go now.

8 Reasons Why You Need to Visit Riviera Maya This Instant:

Have you ever dreamed of swimming with turtles?

Akumal Beach has white sands, a coral reef and warm waters rich in marine life — namely, sea turtles. Along this span of coastline, you’ll find some of the best snorkeling in all of Mexico.

2. Cenotes, Underground Rivers and Caves

People always joke that if you dig deep enough anywhere in Riviera Maya, you’ll hit water.

This just proves how many amazing options there are for swimming in cenotes and underground rivers in the area.

6. Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve

Sian Ka’an — aka “Gift from the Sky” — was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.

Tours typically consist of a boat ride through the reserve, a ride down the fresh water canal, a walk through Muyil Archaeological Site and a home-cooked meal for lunch.

7. Delicious Cuisine

While in Riviera Maya, you’ll have the opportunity to try authentic Mayan cuisine. Some popular dishes include locally caught fish, lime soup, chaya, papadzules and fresh fruit.

And, if you’re not into that, most places offer more common, Americanized food.

8. Resorts

The resorts in Riviera Maya are honestly unparalleled.

For the most part, they’re super isolated and private. They offer amazing service, delicious cuisine, glorious beaches and luxurious amenities.

If you’re looking to experience this destination, I highly recommend staying at the stunning Secrets Akumal.
