One year ago, my wife and I took our first all-inclusive trip to the Riviera Maya for our honeymoon. We were blown away — to say the least — at the amount of luxury and service that we found at our resort.
One of our favorite parts of the trip was the dining aspect. Our resort featured nine different restaurants with various types of food and all at our fingertips at any time of the day. We were somewhat informed prior to arriving about how things worked.
Below are some things to consider as you plan your next All Inclusive vacation.
Tips for Dining at an All Inclusive Beach Resort:
Some resorts, like the Secrets Resorts & Spas, don’t require that you have reservations. This can be a great thing if you want to walk right off the beach and sit down to a meal. On the other hand, if many people show up at once to the same restaurant, you may find yourself waiting in line to get in, especially at peak times. Others, like IBEROSTAR Hotels & Resorts, require reservations at some of their restaurants. This is a great thing to consider and plan when deciding which resort to choose.
A dress code is not an uncommon thing to discover at many of these beach resort restaurants. Many times, when this is the case, business casual dress is appropriate. My brother-in-law, on his honeymoon, forgot to pack a pair of slacks. He learned his mistake in the resort gift shop to the tune of approximately $100 for a pair of dress pants (Yikes!). Don’t make that same mistake! Be sure to check ahead of time just to be safe.
When a resort is listed as All Inclusive it does mean that all of your food and beverages will be complimentary with your stay. However, you may be surprised upon dining at your first restaurant for an evening meal that wine sometimes has a price (and often a lofty one) if you desire anything other than the complimentary house red or house white wines. Find out before you go if the wine selection included in the package price is vast or limited for those that consider themselves wine connoisseurs.
