Your bags are packed, and now it’s time to start counting down the hours until you will be sitting on the beach sipping a fruity drink.
At this point, you’ve realized that pure luxury and relaxation are near, and the last thing you (or we) want is for any obstacles to get in the way of your perfect BlueSun Vacations trip.
Below are a few tips for how to avoid said obstacles.
What to Know Before You Go:
1) Make a list and check it twice.
Your bags are packed, but make sure you have all that you need!
Questions to Ask Yourself:
- Does your resort have a restaurant dress code?
Some resort restaurants have specific dress codes. Ensure access to all restaurants by packing the required garments. Look back at this packing list for everything important that you’ll need for your trip.
- Do you have a bathing suit and a change of clothes in your carry-on?
Most resorts have a late-afternoon check-in time. It’s wise to pack a bathing suit and change of clothes in your carry-on so you can take advantage of the resort’s amenities while you wait on your room.
- Do you have your cash, passport and credit card?
While it’s not expected, I do like to tip the butlers, maids and bellboys. They work hard and are always there to outfit me with anything I need or desire. So, I suggest bringing a little bit of spare cash for this reason.
You will also need your passport for check-in (and obviously flying), so make sure that’s a top priority when packing.
If you desire to purchase any souvenirs or request any upgrades, you’ll need to have your credit card on hand. I would also suggest you don’t use your debit card. While most resorts do accept this method, it’s not the most secure form of payment.
2) CHECK ONLINE FOR YOUR AIRLINES BAGGAGE POLICY AND FEES.
Although your trip may be All-Inclusive, airlines have baggage fees that are not included in your price. Check with your BeachMaster to see if you can add bags to your package in advance.
Also check the cost, weight limit of BOTH carry-on and check-in baggage. Click here for more packing tips.
3) DON’T FORGET YOUR DOCUMENTS.
Just to reiterate — you need a valid passport and your itinerary handy. Your BeachMaster will send the itinerary to you either digitally or via mail.
For good measure, jot down your BeachMaster’s name and number in case you need to contact them during your trip.
If you are taking children other than your own (without their parents) or taking your child without both legal guardians, go here to find what paperwork is recommended for your trip.
4) CHECK FLIGHT STATUS.
Check online or call the airline’s 1-800 number to confirm your flight status and departure time. The airline views this as passenger responsibility, so make sure not to miss your flight!
5) LEAVE FOR THE AIRPORT ON TIME.
Plan to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours early for international flights.
Don’t be denied boarding for checking in too late. You can be turned away if you are there even 50 minutes before your flight.
6) CALL YOUR CREDIT CARD COMPANY BEFORE YOU LEAVE.
Call your credit card company before you leave the country.
This will serve two purposes:
- Notify them of your trip, where you’ll be going and for how long. Avoid that awkward tourist moment of having your credit card frozen.
- Find out what the service fees are for using your card out of country so there will be no future surprises when you get your next bill.
Please note: American Express and Discover cards are not as widely accepted as Mastercard and Visa. For specific questions regarding your credit card, please call your credit card company.
7) IMPORTANT DESTINATION SPECIFIC TIPS
MEXICO: Do not misplace your half of the tourist declaration card you fill out on the plane. You cannot leave the country without turning this in. If you misplace it, you will have to purchase a new one.
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Your tourist card $10 charge is now included when purchasing from your flight so you don’t have to worry about prepaying that anymore.
8) FIND YOUR TRANSFER TO YOUR HOTEL.
Confirm with your BeachMaster if your reservation includes airport-to-hotel transfers.
FOR TRANSFERS: EXIT ALL THE WAY OUT OF THE AIRPORT FOR TRANSFERS. INDIVIDUALS INSIDE ARE ALL OFFERING TIME SHARES, DO NOT BE MISLED!
9) HOW TO SET UP YOUR RETURN TRANSFER TO THE AIRPORT.
Make sure to verify/set up your return transfer with the on-site Local Representative within the first two days of arriving in your destination
Note: Do not do this on the day of departure (!!!)
For the majority of our destinations, you pay for your round-trip ground transfers with your BeachMaster when you book your trip and to make sure, it will say on your printed itinerary.
